Frayling (1993, p.5) divided art research into three categories: research for art, research into art and research through art. Based on it, “No.4” can be considered as research through art. Philosophical theory is related to the relationship between human beings and the world. The artwork originates from this relationship and connects emotions between human beings and the world. The artwork concretises this relationship by representing human beings intention and experience. The phenomenon emerging during pandemic sparked my thoughts and motivated me to do an artwork related to the problems created by this phenomenon. Then the artwork will cause more thinking related to philosophical issues. And finally the philosophical theory gives new idea on artwork. The thinking on the deeper impact of “No.4” on human beings’ experience, intentionality and the society makes me rethink the meaning of the artwork, and gives me new idea to develop it and make it play a greater role in a wider field of society. Therefore, research through art is a process of mutual influence between art and philosophy.
